Brief History of National Camping Travelers, Inc.

National Camping Travelers, Inc., (NCT) was founded in 1966 at Gettysburg, PA, by the late Brother Myron Fox and twenty-one other Masonic families with the idea that a CAMPING CLUB FOR MASTER MASONS AND THEIR FAMILIES would be an added opportunity for fraternal fun and fellowship. Brother Fox's idea has since spread to most of the continental United States and Canada.

Sorry to hear that Ethel Stannard (3-C) is presently in the health care manor. Am sure time and declining health are taking its toll on her. I can recall the day we met her and her late husband Loring which was on the first campout in 1970. We all met at the NTC outing at Lone Oak Campground in E. Cannan, Ct. (NCT was known as Nat'l Camping Travelers back then) and the both of them were so enthusiastic about the organization.

At that time the highest number was 1201. We attended every meeting after joining in September of 1969 and we became very close friends. We had three small children at that time and Loring and Ethel were wonderful with the children and have made lasting impressions on them, which they often speak of today. Loring was insistant that when families arrived at the campouts, that they should be greeted by Brothers as they arrived. So, for many years, when we arrived at the campouts, we would roll down the drivers window, and we were warmly greeted by Loring, Ed MacIntyre of Bristol, Edmund MacNeil, George Simpson and Kenneth Warner. What a

wonderful impression it made on our members, especially those who had recently joined.

A very senior couple, Chapin and Adelade Hubble of Niantic camped in a VW vanagon and they would set up a small tent outside their rig. She always wanted to do the registration and when members arrived, they would go to Adelade's tent, sign up and then they were given a wonderful piece of hand made fudge which everyone looked forward to eating. Although they were in their late 80's at the time, they invited our family to Niantic where they prepared bait and Adelade and the family would get into a row boat, row out to the bridge area near their home and we gathered a 3 gallon pail of crabs. Rowing back to the house, she would tell us of her life experiences living next to the salt water marshes. Once we were safely on land, she prepared the crabs and presented the crab meat to our family. It was our first experience eating crab meat and an experience our family fondly recalls to this date.

Gail and I warmly recall many wonderful campouts with NCT ane especially memories of families . Dick and Esther Egner, the Simpsons, MacIntyres, Sullivans, Stannards, Warners, Barstows, The Hubbels. Although failing health and time makes it necessary that we stay close to home, we still have wonderful memories of NCT. We hope and pray that those who are presently active are as excited about making memories for the young families who join this wonderful group of Masonic families.

I am doing very well with my battle with Liver and Colon Cancer , and we plan to get out to camp some this summer. Our Diesel Pusher Motor Home is presently for sale and although we hate to part with it, we must.

Our best to you and those you love.
